Manufactured from natural clay, clay bricks are specified across a wide range of building applications, offering dependable structural performance alongside varying levels of finish depending on the brick type selected.
This range includes multiple clay brick categories to suit different construction requirements, from structural walling to exposed aesthetic and paved surfaces.
Clay Bricks Product Categories
Clay stock bricks are primarily used for load-bearing and general masonry work where walls will be plastered or finished later. Appearance is not controlled, as these bricks are not intended to remain exposed.

Semi-face bricks are designed to be left exposed while allowing for natural variation in colour and texture. They offer a cleaner finish than stock bricks but do not meet the strict aesthetic consistency of face bricks.
Typical use:
- Exposed masonry where appearance matters, but premium visual uniformity is not required.
Face bricks are manufactured specifically for exposed brickwork where the brick surface forms the final finish. These bricks are graded (FBX, FBS, FBA) based on visual consistency and aesthetic quality.

- Facades
- Boundary walls
- Architectural features
- Visible brickwork where appearance is critical
Clay paving bricks are used where a hard-wearing, load-bearing surface is required with long-term colour stability and resistance to wear. Manufactured from natural clay and fired at high temperatures, clay paving performs reliably under repeated traffic and environmental exposure.

- Courtyards
- Walkways
Durability Classification- NFP & NFX
Clay stock bricks are available in two durability classifications, specified according to environmental exposure and site conditions.
NFP
NFP bricks are intended for general building work that will be plastered.
- These are suitable for protected applications where durability requirements are moderate.
NFP clay bricks supplied by Baksteenmel are guaranteed to never test below 10MPA, with an average strength of approximately 14MPA.
NFX
NFX bricks are designed for more demanding conditions, including applications below damp-proof course, in damp environments, or below ground level.
- Durability is prioritised over appearance in this classification.
NFX clay bricks supplied by Baksteenmel are guaranteed to never test below 15MPA, with average strength testing around 25MPA.
